Arsenal were on the road again, this time at Anfield, to face Premier League leaders, Liverpool.

Unai Emery’s team started the game well, looking to keep the ball moving quickly and work hard off the ball. Indeed, the first goal came after just 11 minutes, when a great ball in from Alex Iwobi was met by Ainsley Maitland-Niles at the back post. The youngster finished well to give the Gunners the lead and register his first senior goal for Arsenal. However, in the space of three minutes, Liverpool went ahead through two Firmino goals. Emery’s team tried to respond, and looked particularly threatening from wide areas. But a third goal for the home side was scored by Mane just after the half-hour mark. Salah was awarded a penalty just before the break, and he finished to make the half-time score 4-1.

Firmino scored another penalty after 65 minutes to complete his hat-trick. There were no further goals and the game ended in a 5-1 scoreline. Arsenal will now look for a quick and positive response in their next Premier League match, at home against Fulham on New Year’s Day.
