Unai Emery’s Arsenal team faced Nottingham Forest in the 3rd round of the League Cup on Tuesday night at Emirates Stadium after Sunday’s come-back win against Aston Villa. The Gunners welcomed back Rob Holding and Hector Bellerín at long last after their serious injuries, and it was a special night for both players after all their hard work throughout the rehabilitation period. The first half saw Arsenal move through the gears and the opening goal fell to Gabriel Martinelli in the 31st minute after a volleyed cross from Calum Chambers.
Arsenal came back out for the second half determined to increase the lead and put the game to bed. It took a while to come but it was worth the wait for Holding, who celebrated his return with a goal in the 71st minute. Next up to seal his come-back was Bellerín, who came on for Kieran Tierney with a quarter of an hour on the clock and immediately set up Joe Willock for Arsenal’s third. Chambers got his second assist of the night; Reiss Nelson finished his chance well, and Martinelli had a long-range shot deflected past the ‘keeper to make it five.
The next challenge for Arsenal is on Monday night at Old Trafford in the Premier League against Manchester United.
