Arsenal draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers (1-1)
30 October, 2019
Unai Emery’s Arsenal were up against Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The match began at a high tempo and it was the away side who started better in the opening quarter of an hour. Bernd Leno made a regulation save to keep out an early Moutinho free kick and then Neves hit a long-range effort over the bar. Arsenal began to gain control of the game and combine better in possession and the chances started to come. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang got on the end of a good ball from David Luiz and got a shot in on goal. A couple of minutes later, Ozil played a nice ball down the right for Alex Lacazette to run onto and feed into Lucas Torreira, whose effort was diverted just wide of the post.
The opening goal of the game arrived in the 21st minute after good work from Luiz down the right. The Brazilian defender’s cross was latched onto by Lacazette, who spun and slipped the ball across to Aubameyang. The striker literally passed the ball into the net from about twelve yards out, a typically calm finish and his 50th goal in 78 appearances for the Gunners. Wolves had a good chance to equalise before half-time but Leno made an excellent save to deny Doherty.
The second half saw the away side start well and Leno made a good save to turn a Neves effort wide of the post. Arsenal wanted the second and Lacazette hit a chance over the bar after good interplay between Aubameyang and Ozil. The rain was pouring down and the match got scrappier as the tackles flew in from both sides. Wolves equalised with quarter of an hour to go when Jimenez headed in a Moutinho cross. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Arsenal’s next fixture is this Wednesday away against Vitoria in the Europa League.
