Arsenal were up against Rennes in the second leg of the last-16 tie of the Europa League.

Unai Emery’s team had a job to do in the return leg of the Europa League game against a very good team. After falling behind in the first leg by three goals to one, it was up to the Gunners to turn it around at Emirates Stadium if they wanted to continue in the competition.

It didn’t take long for Arsenal to break the deadlock; Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was in the right place at the right time to get on the end of Ramsey’s cross after just 5 minutes. And Arsenal doubled their lead on the quarter of an hour mark, Aubameyang with the cross this time and Ainsley Maitland-Niles was there to nod in at the back post.

The second half began with Rennes pushing hard to get back in the game. M’Baye Niang had an effort turned onto the post by Petr Cech, and the home side had to defend robustly for a period of the half. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi came on and they made an impression almost instantly. Iwobi saw an effort go just wide shortly after entering the field of play. Soon after, Mkhitaryan fed the ball to Sead Kolasinac, whose square ball was finished by Aubameyang. It was a brace and his 22nd of the season, the third goal of the night for the home side. There were more chances to increase the lead, but the game ended in a 3-0 win for Arsenal.

Arsenal’s next Premier League match is against Newcastle United at Emirates Stadium on Monday, 1st of April.
