Arsenal played the first match of their US tour against MLS side Colorado Rapids in Denver.

The capacity crowd at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Park had the chance to see some of Arsenal’s young talent close-up, as well as some of the more established stars who came on in the second half. 18 year-old James Olayinka made his second start for the first team and he was straight into the action, providing an assist for Bukayo Saka. The 17 year-old ran onto Olayinka’s through-ball and casually lifted it over the ‘keeper and into the back of the net. Just before the half-hour mark, Olayinka drove through the midfield and unleashed an unstoppable right-footed effort into the top right corner to double the Arsenal lead.

The second half saw new Brazilian signing Gabriel Martinelli bag a debut goal and seal a good performance with an improvised finish off his shoulder from a Dominic Thompson cross. The stadium rose to welcome Alexandre Lacazette, Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who all came on for the final quarter of an hour. The game ended in a 0-3 victory for the Gunners.

Unai Emery’s Arsenal squad now return to Los Angeles where they will face Bayern Munich in the International Champions Cup.
