Unai Emery’s Arsenal made the journey north to face Man Utd in the Monday night Premier League fixture. The game was played in heavy rain for the duration and both teams found it hard to get going in a hard-fought first half. Just before the break, Arsenal came close through Bukayo Saka but David de Gea parried his shot away to the right; Matteo Guendouzi followed in on the rebound but was unable to beat the Spanish ‘keeper from a tight angle. The home side cleared the following corner and countered, McTominay ended the move with powerful shot that flew into the roof of the net to give United the lead.
Arsenal reacted well to having gone a goal behind just before half-time and started the second half strongly. Just before the hour mark, Saka latched onto a misplaced United pass and played a perfectly weighted first-time ball to set Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang through on goal, his immaculate chipped finish gave de Gea no chance. The goal was flagged for offside by the assistant referee but VAR confirmed that Aubameyang was comfortably onside, and the goal stood. Both teams had chances to get a winner in the final half an hour, but the draw was perhaps the fairest result.
The next challenge for Arsenal is in the UEL on Thursday night at Emirates Stadium vs Standard Liege.
