Unai Emery’s Arsenal were in action against Portuguese side Vitoria in their fourth match of Europa League Group F. The match was played in difficult weather conditions, with heavy rain falling for the duration. The hosts started well and Pepe hit the woodwork in the 8th minute with a powerful long-range effort. Arsenal gained control of possession but were finding it difficult to make things happen in the final third. Emi Martinez had to make a couple of good stops to prevent the home side taking the lead, while Rob Holding was unable to hit the target with a header just before half-time.

The second half began with a chance for Vitoria but Sokratis managed to get back in time to hook Edward’s pull-back away from danger. Holding came close with another headed effort and Willock tried from distance but couldn’t hit the target. With ten minutes to go, Shkodran Mustafi got his head to Pepe’s free kick and put the Gunners ahead with an excellent finish. In the final seconds of the match, Duarte scored an acrobatic equaliser to rescue a point for the home team. Arsenal remain in first position in the group on 10 points from 4 matches.

Arsenal’s next fixture is this Saturday, away against Leicester City, in the Premier League.
