Arsenal were unable to pick up points in Unai Emery’s Premier League debut against current champions Manchester City.
The Gunners suffered an early first half set-back when Sterling put the opposition ahead in the 14th minute. Emery’s men were put under pressure by Guardiola’s side and the focus was on defensive work for much of the opening 45 minutes, while looking to hit City on the counter whenever possible.
The second half saw Arsenal come back into the game, with greater possession and a clear commitment to the pressing game that the team are working to implement. With 25 minutes left on the clock and Arsenal creating chances to equalise, Bernardo Silva scored for Manchester City, handing his team a two goal lead.
Arsenal kept on searching for a way back into the game and showed plenty of spirit until the final whistle, but the visitors took the three points.
Unai and his team will now begin preparations for next Saturday’s London derby at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.
