Unai Emery’s Arsenal travelled to Spain to play their last pre-season friendly against FC Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy.

The first half saw Barcelona enjoy a greater share of possession, but Arsenal were working hard in defence and looking to spring the counter-attack whenever possible. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave the Gunners the lead in the 36th minute. The Gabon international showed quick footwork to beat Alba and his right-foot strike flew into the top-right corner. The home side made various changes at half-time and pushed hard for an equaliser. Joe Willock was forced into a brilliant goal-line clearance to protect the lead. A mix-up between Ainsley Maitand-Niles and Bernd Leno put the hosts back on level terms in the 69th minute. Gabriel Martinelli almost grabbed a late goal with a volley that went just the wrong side of the post, but it was Luis Suarez who scored the winner for Barcelona seconds before full-time.

Arsenal begin their 19/20 Premier League campaign next Sunday away at Newcastle United.
