Week to relax, week to enjoy with the family and get away, but not off the illusions that we set in 2016. Keeping in mind that our priority today is to finish the year with 26 points after the visit of Espanyol at RSP, from January we will fight for three goals that lead us down the path of the requirement, responsibility and enthusiasm: League, Cup and Europa League.
So far, the performance has not been as expected. In the League, what happened in the derby may reflect what has been the first part of the season. We understand that the level of team and the results achieved since we started working in summer have been insufficient, but it is also true that the path of the team being up since the defeat against Celta with 21 points from 33 possible and becoming strong again at home. Defensively the team is showing itself stronger, with a goal conceded in the last seven games and offensively we could generate more chances and be more effective especially in away matches.
At the beginning of the season, expectations were high, with a return to the Champions League as a major focus of hope for the club and the sevillismo, despite the bad start we are straightening the road and we are optimistic. We enjoyed the Champions competing with three of the best teams in the continent, which will certainly useful as learning for Sevilla FC, and we have earned to stay alive in Europe, in that competition that so excites us, the Europa League. But this will come in February, so today we focus on Espanyol, Granada and Athletic, the last three games of the first round of the League, and in the vibrant 180 minutes derby that awaits us in the Cup – always impressive to see the fans of Sevilla FC at their maximum expression.
The way is marked and to reach each station the team should continue taking steps, in terms of competitiveness, not to stop and gain the credibility that it had last season and already sees when it plays at RSP. The squad is good, works well, and wants to move forward because the best is yet to come. Happy and red and white holidays to all!
